With its 350 hectares, the Reserva Ecológica is the largest green area in the City of Buenos Aires and one of the favourite places for walking, cycling, jogging, hiking or spending the day with the family during the weekend.
A unique proposal to get to know the native flora and fauna in the middle of the city. Forests, pastures, lagoons and marshes are part of this unique area, declared a Ramsar site in 2005 for its worldwide importance as a wetland.
The Reserve is part of the Ecoruta del Río de la Plata, a circuit of more than 100 km long that connects the green areas and protected areas of AMBA with surrounding areas. Among them, the Reserva de la Biósfera Delta del Río Paraná, the Parque Nacional Ciervo de los Pantanos and the Reserva Natural Municipal del Pilar stand out.
As if the possibility of getting to know the more than 2000 species that can be seen from its six trails -among plants, animals, fungi, insects, turtles, lizards and coypu-, the Reserve is surrounded by heritage value. Located a few metres away from Puerto Madero and very close to the historic centre of Buenos Aires, it is surrounded by emblematic artistic and architectural works.
Birdwatching in this area deserves a special mention. Experts from all over the world come to the Reserva Ecológica to contemplate the more than 343 species that fly in the sky. In two hours, at least 50 different species can be sighted.
In 1986, the Reserva Ecológica Costanera Sur was declared a Natural Park and Reserve Zone.
A must: from the viewpoints contemplate, the landscape under the shade of the ceibos, Argentina's national flower.
