What is the urban right of use

Here's what you need to know about this fee

TheRight of Urban Use (DUU), known as City Tax in other countries, is a tax to be paid by foreign tourists over 12 years old staying in the City of Buenos Aires, for each night of stay.

It is paid at the accommodation where tourists stay. The establishment then collects it and transfers it to the Government of the City of Buenos Aires.

What is done with the money?

The proceeds from the DUU are used to finance the promotion of tourism of the City through Visit Buenos Aires. This includes advertising campaigns, participation in international fairs, development of tourism products, etc.

What should I know as a tourist?

  • In most establishments it is included in the price of the room.
  • If it is not included, the establishment must inform you of the cost of the DUU before making the reservation.
  • You can find more information about the DUU on the official tourism website of the City of Buenos Aires: https://agip.gob.ar/campanas/derechodeusourbano

Here are some additional tips for you to consider:

  • Be sure to ask about the DUU when making your reservation.
  • Keep the receipt of the DUU payment, as you may be asked for it when leaving the country.
  • Note that the DUU is only one of the taxes that tourists can pay in Buenos Aires. Other fees include VAT (21%) and the airport tax (USD 30).
