There, theatre crafts are kept alive and passed down and today these workshops are open to the public so they can visit them and experience all the magic.
Thus, visiting Colon Factory, located in La Boca neighborhood is like immersing yourself in a parallel universe. An experience in which you will discover the behind the scenes of the Colon’s outstanding programme: sets, wardrobe, wigs, shoes and special effects.
A magical experience
Since early morning, the smell of freshly-cut wood and fresh paint fills the room. Artisans give shape to the boldest ideas. A sculptor works on a colossal sculpture that will be the central axis of the next opera, while a team of dressmakers gives the finishing touches to a period wardrobe.
In the carpentry workshop, the sounds of the tools intertwine with the conversations about the technical challenges of each project. Here, they build everything from majestic sets to the smallest elements of the scenography. Precision and detail are essential to create an amazing world.
Wardrobe designers work with high quality fabrics and exclusive designs, giving life to historical and fantastic characters. Each garment is a work of art in itself, designed to tell a story and enhance the artists’ performance.

A craft and innovative process
Colón Fábrica is on a 7,500 square metre area where the set productions, props and curtains of Teatro Colón, are stored, an area that expands exponentially season after season. Furthermore, the work carried out there contributes to solving the storage and conservation of scenography pieces.
Tradition merges with innovation. Here, craftsmen use ancestral techniques, but they also use the latest technologies to achieve surprising results.
