From zoo to ecological park
Ecoparque occupies the site of the former Jardín Zoológico de Buenos Aires, that was inaugurated in 1888 and operated until 2016. Here, there are 42 buildings, declared National Historical Monuments, that were created with the idea of reflecting the classic architecture of each country of origin of the species that inhabited them. That is why their architecture styles are so varied (Chinese, Hindu, Moorish and Greco-Roman). In addition, Ecoparque has 9 bridges and 3 lakes; 27 works of art, including sculptures and monuments; and many decorative works (fountains, masts, Byzantine ruins).
Today, the Ecoparque has become a centre for the conservation of native species in danger of extinction that actively collaborates with the recovery and enrichment of Argentina’s biodiversity, opening its doors to visitors to promote environmental education.

Ecoparque has 16 hectares so that the whole family can come to enjoy and learn about biodiversity, through educational and recreational experiences. In recent years existing conservation programmes have been strengthened in a federal programme coordinated with all the provinces of our national territory. These programmes work on the research and breeding in human isolation of threatened species to reintroduce them into their natural habitats and thus strengthen their populations. In addition, Ecoparque acts as a wildlife rescue centre for the whole country.

You will walk along trails with native plants and butterflies. You will also be surprised by the native mammals (capybara, tapir, guanaco, pampas deer, mara, coypu) and native birds (such as rhea, Chilean flamingo, southern screamer, sparrow hawk, cardinal, green humming bird, Andean condor and others)
