Don't let the rain stop you!
Museums, an option that never fails
One of the best indoor plans on a rainy day in Buenos Aires undoubtedly involves art and museums.
In the heart of the historic San Telmo, Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires (MAMBA) stands out as a must for contemporary art lovers. This cultural venue offers an enriching experience, presenting an eclectic selection of Argentine and international artworks, ranging from its permanent collection to creations by renowned contemporary artists.

MAMBA stands out for its commitment to innovation, hosting a wide range of artistic expressions that challenge conventional limits. Visitors can explore modern artwork, interactive installations and multimedia art pieces. The museum is constantly evolving, presenting artistic proposals that surprise and captive with each visit.
Another unmissable museum is the Museo Nacional de Bellas ArtesLocated in Recoleta neighbourhood, this century-old institution is home to an invaluable artistic heritage. Founded in 1896, this museum has become one of Latin America’s most important museums, housing the most extensive collection of Argentine art in the country alongside an outstanding selection of international works of art.
Over the years, the museum’s collection has grown with pieces by world-renowned artists, such as El Greco, Goya, Rodin, Rembrandt, Rubens, Renoir and Picasso, among others. As to Argentine art, visitors can admire works by prominent painters such as Cándido López, Fernando Fader, Benito Quinquela Martín and Marta Minujín. In addition, the museum boasts a significant collection of Latin American art, with works by Pedro Figari, Joaquín Torres García, Tarsila Do Amaral, Diego Rivera and Jesús Rafael Soto.
To complete the experience, the museum features a photography section devoted to pre-Columbian Andean art, two terraces with sculptures and a library with 150.000 volumes.
Buenos Aires and its historic cafes
A rainy day also calls for a delicious coffee or a tasty bite in a bar. In the heart of Recoleta, you will find La Biela’ history and culture. Located on Buenos Aires. This iconic establishment, located in the Avenida Quintana, this emblematic spot was for years a meeting point for intellectuals, artists, athletes and notable personalities. Writers such as Jorge Luis Borges, Adolfo Bioy Casares and Julio Cortázar used to gather here.

La Biela stands out for its classic and elegant atmosphere, where history and tradition are palpable. Its tables have been the setting for memorable conversations, casual encounters and unforgettable moments. Besides its historical and cultural value, this bar offers a high quality menu, featuring classic Argentine dishes and a wide range of beverages.

If you are into films, we recommend two venues off the traditional circuit, perfect to enjoy a rainy day indoors. Cine del Malba is a cultural space located within the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA). It is known for its diverse and high quality programming, that features auteur cinema, independent film screenings, restored classics and thematic film series. Another option is Cine Gaumont, located opposite Plaza del Congreso, an emblematic venue for Argentine cinema. With a history dating back to 1912, this cinema has been a benchmark for national film screenings.
